Having sexual urges? Dealing with masturbation? Lustful thoughts translating into action? Engaging in sex before marriage? Sexual Impurity is a dangerous sin. There’s a taboo when it is talked about. 1.) People say that it’s impossible for women to undergo sexual impurity. 2.) The Bible doesn’t directly address acts of sexual impurity such as, masturbation so it’s an allowance to do it.
Though these facts are somewhat true, the Bible provides principles on sexual purity and the stewardship of our bodies— which are temples of the Holy Spirit. And if you are a non-Christian, sexual purity shows you why it is worth becoming a Christian.
Our Bodies are Not Our Own
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.”
1 Corinthians 6:12-13 NIV
This is the reality. God wants us to be happy with Him. Not happy by the world’s standards. There are plenty of things that God allows us to do and other things that He doesn’t because it hurts us. It hurts our relationship with Him, our thinking, and physical well-being. That is what sexual immorality does and that is why God wants us separate from it.
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NIV
Have you ever had a parent, teacher, or authority figure in your life repeat something that was important to you to remember twice on two separate occasions? This scripture feels that way!
God wants us to honor Him with our BODIES. We are His and we were bought at a beautiful price. Have you ever bought something very expensive? If expensive, you’d want to take care of it and handle it with care. Thats why God says that sexual immorality is against your own body. God handles us with care and it is our job to uphold the convictions and values that God has set for us to ensure and continue that care. In addition, fleeing is not praying or thinking about it. RUN AWAY ! GO! Just as Joseph did with Potiphar’s wife.
As a previous porn/sex addict, there are a few things that I saw in my behavior that weren’t of God.
- Imaginary thinking: I started imagining random people naked or engaging in sexual immorality.
- Start becoming occupied: Becoming too busy engaging in sexual immorality with others and engaging in porn then going to God (that includes fellowshipping, worship, the Bible etc.)
- Started to view my relationships lustfully
- Giving others and myself excuses for my sin
- Seeking advice from outside influences to get the “okay” to continue.
- Lying to others
- Made a checklist of other sins I wasn’t committing so I can be sexually immoral
The list goes on. If you identify with any or all, I suggest doing what I did.
Seeking Christian counsel/spiritual mentor, cut off all worldly relationships, outside influences, and worldly apps. Lastly, ask, seek, and knock.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
- Approach God with honesty and humility
- Acknowledge the struggles and seek His word to help you overcome. FLEE
- Express your desire to a holy, honoring, and god fearing life.
Be consistent in prayer and trust in Him.
God bless ladies and remember that Jesus loves you!
