”Forgive but never forget.” I’ve heard that saying for far too long and generally it’s true. But what if I told you that there was a such thing as forgive AND forget that the Bible teaches and why it’s important to follow. Let’s talk about it!
Why Forgive?
Why does forgiveness even exist? To be honest, there are times where I just want to lash out at the people that have done wrong to me. I even want to laugh at how ridiculous they’d go to great lengths to try to hurt me. But that’s not how we should deal with our adversaries who do us wrong.
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Colossians 3:13 NIV
See, forgiveness is a behavioral and mental process. It is behavioral by bearing with others and mental by forgiving others. Making the decision of forgiveness is up to you. No one is forcing you to forgive others but it is necessary because of Gods love for us. I’m going to be honest intense micro aggressions such as ignoring, deliberately hurting, and verbally letting down another person is not forgiveness. It’s hurtful. And between you and me, God does not bless mess, He will humble you, but not bless you. I know from experience. Following through with the scriptures in this way is pivotal towards your salvation. It literally says that forgiveness is being like God.
What Are the Results?
“to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’”
Acts 26:18 NIV
Remember when the scripture said above to “Forgive as God forgives us?” This is why!
Benefits of Forgiveness:
- Our eyes will be opened towards light and away from darkness
- We will gain the power of God!
- Our sins will be forgiven
- We are given a place! (Heaven)
Don’t let your opportunity to go into the kingdom of heaven be shunned away because of the evil deeds of unforgiveness.
