Laaddiieeesss! We’ve all been here. You have work, then executive board meetings, then hangouts, next worship meetings, and then phone calls with sisters, evangelizing, and then 2 hours of sleep because you have another commitment bright and early tomorrow morning! Make it stop! Am I right?
What do you do when you have a lot of great, positive, and draining commitments but you are at high risk of burnout after? What do you do to lessen the load? How do you determine what to give up and what to devote your time with doing without being a robot? How do you stay on top of evangelizing while keeping your current sister friendships? Let’s dissect how with God.
Taking It Slow, Determine What’s Good and Not
”“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.”
1 Kings 19:11 NIV
There are going to be moments, just like God, when you plan out something and it not execute. God made a plan and it came into fruition, but he wasn’t there. You have to determine what is best to devote your time to and decide what to sacrifice so you can get a nice and healthy night’s rest for the next day. If that means Kyle will have to sing Soprano for worship practice while you go meet up with a sister for a Bible study, so be it. That doesn’t mean you don’t worship at all and you are devoting time for the irreplaceable. Think about things in your schedule that other people can do and things that you can do that way you won’t be the “yes” lady for everything.
Acknowledge the Season You Are In
““Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.”
Exodus 34:21 NIV
This takes great humility. There are reasons why in the Bible, we see seasons of plowing and seasons of harvest. Seasons of plowing are seasons where you are in preparation. You are making a schedule of what kinds of plants and vegetables you are going to be tending to at that certain time which is generally in the spring or mid August. With the harvest season, it’s a different story. It’s the collection time! Everything you have planted it is now your job to take it. You have to be careful of the duration, so that the plants don’t go bad. Why is this all important? Well keeping track of your seasons will help you increase your rest and decrease your commitments. I know as of right now with this being the graduate school season, I cannot make any firm bible study commitments in Chicago. It’s doable but I wouldn’t there to be inconsistencies within the study because of my tardiness and intense work schedule as I prepare for my next journey. Moral of the story, know where you are and PLAN accordingly.
Alright ladies, that’s it for today! God Bless and remember Jesus loves you! 🌸
